Sequoia Iona

Sequoia Iona

Sport: Football

The performance: On a night when Kealakehe’s offense struggled with turnovers, penalties and a muddy field, Iona, a senior safety, was the best weapon the Waveriders had.

Iona intercepted four passes, returning the final one for a touchdown to cap a 28-8 victory at Keaau on Saturday night.

All game the long, Kealakehe kept turning the ball over – finishing with six – but Iona and the defense continually had the answer.

Iona was a step ahead of the Cougars quarterback, baiting them into poor decisions and then stepping in front of receivers.

He would have had another pick-six, but it was brought back by penalty.
